Distribution of hygiene kits in IDPs Wajid District

In December 2024, Mustaqbal Development and Relief Organization (MUDRO), with generous funding from the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF), successfully distributed 2,200 hygiene kits to vulnerable families across seven IDP camps across Gomoro, Meyqonsatay, Tawado, Barwaqo, Bisigley, Bur Basle, Al Towba—and one host community village, Dameey, in Wajid District, Bakool Region. Each kit contained 5 bars of soap, 1 collapsible jerrycan (20 L), 1 plastic bucket (20 L), and 1 menstrual hygiene management (MHM) set.

Beneficiaries were identified through close coordination with camp leaders, village committees, and local authorities, prioritizing women-headed households, people with disabilities, pregnant and lactating mothers, elderly persons, and newly displaced IDPs. The distribution was conducted in an organized and transparent manner under the supervision of MUDRO’s accountability and monitoring teams, ensuring that all registered beneficiaries received their full entitlement.

In addition, 10 hygiene promoters and 2 community mobilizers were deployed to conduct household visits and community hygiene awareness sessions, focusing on key practices such as handwashing with soap, safe water storage and treatment, and latrine hygiene.

This activity was part of the project titled “Provision of Life-Saving and Sustainable WASH Services for Climate Shock-A ected Communities in Wajid District, Bakool Region,” implemented by MUDRO and funded by SHF to enhance access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services for drought- and flood-a ected communities.
