Mustaqbal Development and Relief Organization (MUDRO), in partnership with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and SHF, has successfully implemented the Provision of Life-Saving and Sustainable WASH Services for Climate Shock-Affected Communities in Wajid District, Bakool Region, Somalia. This project aimed to address the urgent water needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who continue to face severe shortages due to prolonged drought and recurrent climate shocks.

Through this intervention, MUDRO provided daily water trucking services to 760HH in seven IDPs for a period of 60 days(first January to end of February 2025) ensuring consistent access to safe and clean water for household consumption. The activity was carried out in close coordination with local authorities and community representatives to guarantee equitable distribution and transparency throughout the process. Each delivery was closely monitored by MUDRO’s field team to ensure compliance with WASH cluster standards and maintain high water quality.
This initiative brought immense relief to hundreds of families who previously walked long distances to access water, often in unsafe conditions. The successful implementation of this activity has improved hygiene conditions, reduced exposure to waterborne diseases, and restored dignity to affected families — especially women and children who bear the greatest burden of water
collection.

MUDRO extends its sincere appreciation to SHF/OCHA for their continued partnership and financial support, which made this lifesaving intervention possible. The organization also acknowledges the cooperation of the local authorities and community members in Wajid District for their active involvement and support during the implementation process.
The success of this activity demonstrates the impact of coordinated humanitarian action in responding to climate-induced challenges and highlights MUDRO’s ongoing commitment to improving the well-being of vulnerable communities across Somalia. Together with OCHA and other humanitarian partners, MUDRO remains dedicated to expanding access to sustainable WASH services and fostering resilience among affected populations.
